Although not the problem it once was, Cellulites still causes distress to many women who have additional fat in the tissues of their thighs, buttocks and stomach. Although rarer, men can also suffer with cellulites which are normally seen as areas that appear to be a lighter shade than the rest of the skin. A person with good circulation will have an even and smooth layer of skin but in a person with cellulites, fats become stored, along with other toxin, under the skin when under normal circumstances they would be flushed out. Over time this fatty tissue hardens and produces what we call cellulites easily identified as those areas giving an ‘orange peel’ effect to the skin.
There are many factors involved in how the cellulites will appear on any given individual as their weight, lifestyle and also their genetics all play an important role. Having said that even active women can get cellulite and it can be found even in the muscles of fit individuals, including dancers and athletes because there are different types of cellulites so being overweight is only one reason for having the problem. It’s the hard or solid cellulites that cause problems and are hard to remove as they are attached directly to the muscles. The soft cellulites on the other hand are more easily identified because they are closer to the surface of the skin and considerably easier to remove.
It is women who suffer the most from cellulite and this can start anytime after their 14th birthday and will usually get worse with age. Cellulites have been linked to the contraceptive pill or when a woman has given birth and sometimes it may even be triggered by an accident or injury.

Having the correct diet and plenty of exercise is still believed to be the best way to control cellulites as exercise will improve the circulation which in turn improves the appearance of the skin. From the diet standpoint, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and working with a detoxifying diet, improves the chances of the cellulites disappearing. Coffee and soft drinks should be avoided where possible but wholegrain foods are definitely recommended.
Although so far unproven, it is considered by some that spicy foods may also help contribute to the formation of cellulites. The same cannot be said for those other two toxin laden commodities, alcohol and smoking which should be avoided. Although a low-fat diet is not required, some dieticians recommend reducing the consumption of fatty foods that are eaten as these are more difficult to digest and to flush out of the system plus fats also contribute in the enlargement of the cellulites.
Whilst cellulite creams have some success at preventing the cellulites formation and growth, they cannot as yet, remove cellulites from the tissue altogether. By using alpha-hydroxyl acid cream, the cellulites are made to look as if they have disappeared by making the skin more elastic whereas all the cream has done is mask the cellulites. Water, whether drunk or in therapy form is good for the skin as it removes toxins and fats from the system, improving the circulation and digestion, effectively rendering the cellulites less visible.
