Cellulite Surgery

For many women, the term cellulites conjures up a certain dread for this problem of fatty tissue tends to favour the abdomen, thighs and bottom of a considerable percentage of females. Although rarer, men can also suffer with cellulites which are normally seen as areas that appear to be a lighter shade than the rest of the skin. When there is fluid in the layers of skin, it becomes a problem because stored fats and other toxins become trapped and do not get flushed out unlike a person with good circulation who will have smooth skin. Over time this fatty tissue hardens and produces what we call cellulites easily identified as those areas giving an ‘orange peel’ effect to the skin.

The appearance of the cellulites will depend upon each person’s genetics, their lifestyle and the weight of the individual, all of which are factors in cellulite formation. Strangely there are different types of cellulites and being overweight is only one of the causes of cellulite as active and fit women can also suffer and it is found in the muscles of active women such as dancers and athletes. It’s the hard or solid cellulites that cause problems and are hard to remove as they are attached directly to the muscles. The easier cellulites to see are the soft type and whilst they are more unsightly as they may appear to hang from the skin and affect larger muscle areas, they are considerably easier to remove.

Unfortunately, it’s women who are most often the ones with cellulite problems and they can start anytime after they turn 14 years of age plus as they grow older, the affected areas become larger. The contraceptive pill has been linked with acquiring cellulites, as has giving birth and suffering from an injury.

Improving the circulation with exercise, combined with a healthy diet, will improve the appearance of cellulites and is still thought to be the best way to improve your cellulites condition. From the diet standpoint, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and working with a detoxifying diet, improves the chances of the cellulites disappearing. Coffee and soft drinks should be avoided where possible but wholegrain foods are definitely recommended.

Some people believe that eating spicy foods contributes to the cellulites formation but no specific proof that this is the case has so far been brought to light. However, the same cannot be said for smoking and alcohol which should be avoided as both help in the build-up of toxins in the body. Although a low-fat diet is not required, some dieticians recommend reducing the consumption of fatty foods that are eaten as these are more difficult to digest and to flush out of the system plus fats also contribute in the enlargement of the cellulites.

Proprietary cellulite creams are often successful in the treatment and prevention of cellulites but presently they cannot completely eradicate the tissues. The creams that contain alpha-hydroxyl acid improve the elasticity of the skin making the cellulites less obvious but do not actually remove the cellulites. Water therapy is also proving to be effective because it seems to make cellulites become less visible as it removes toxins in the body as well as fat and also aids in proper digestion and blood circulation.
