The prime locations for cellulites, which is fatty tissue, are usually around the thighs, buttocks and stomach on women. Although rarer, men can also suffer with cellulites which are normally seen as areas that appear to be a lighter shade than the rest of the skin. When there is fluid in the layers of skin, it becomes a problem because stored fats and other toxins become trapped and do not get flushed out unlike a person with good circulation who will have smooth skin. The tissues with the stored fats and toxins become hard over time producing the bumpy ‘orange peel’ effect called cellulites.

There are many factors involved in how the cellulites will appear on any given individual as their weight, lifestyle and also their genetics all play an important role. Strangely there are different types of cellulites and being overweight is only one of the causes of cellulite as active and fit women can also suffer and it is found in the muscles of active women such as dancers and athletes. The hard cellulites attach themselves directly to the muscle tissue and are the hardest to remove. The soft cellulites on the other hand are more easily identified because they are closer to the surface of the skin and considerably easier to remove.

It is women who suffer the most from cellulite and this can start anytime after their 14th birthday and will usually get worse with age. Often, cellulites occur because a woman has started taking the contraceptive pill or has just given birth and even people who have suffered from injuries can develop cellulites.

Exercise and diet are still almost uniformly believed to be the best way to eradicate cellulites because exercise is particularly effective at improving the circulation and usually helps reduce the appearance of the cellulites. Whilst exercise is good, it works better when working in conjunction with a detoxifying diet which should include plenty of fruits and vegetables. Whole grain foods are also greatly recommended but foods that should be avoided include regular favorites such as coffee and soft drinks.

It is believed by some that spicy foods may contribute much in the appearance of cellulites but so far this appears to be untested and so not proved. However, the same cannot be said for smoking and alcohol which should be avoided as both help in the build-up of toxins in the body. Although cellulites are not necessarily formed by a high fat diet fat is difficult to flush out of the system and can contribute to the cellulites formation so a low-fat diet is preferable.

Although they cannot completely get rid of cellulites, cellulite creams are quite successful in treating and hiding cellulite. By using alpha-hydroxyl acid cream, the cellulites are made to look as if they have disappeared by making the skin more elastic whereas all the cream has done is mask the cellulites. Water, whether drunk or in therapy form is good for the skin as it removes toxins and fats from the system, improving the circulation and digestion, effectively rendering the cellulites less visible.
